Dear Members,

Please find attached the last newsletter to be produced by me for the club. If I thought that life in lockdown was difficult, trying to move interstate in a pandemic is impossible. It has got to the stage that when we see an opportunity we shall just go, as trying to plan a date just doesn’t happen.

As 2020 dawned, I knew that my mission for the CMGC for the year was to canvas our membership and attempt to recruit a new committee.  After about 5 years of service, most volunteers on committees reach the end of their run and either need a break, or need to stand down.  Many members of our committee had reached that point at the start of 2020 and were only on the committee in temporary or stand-in positions. Then Covid came and the lockdowns shut our club down, giving me no chance of achieving my goal.

After talking with numerous medicos, a pandemic usually takes a minimum of 2 years before it’s brought under control and life can return to normal.  We are only one year down and with the age  demographic of our club, the majority of the committee are in agreement that it would not be safe to resume the club activities any time soon, especially with the unexpected Covid breakouts and lockdown of the last week, and the recent formal advice from our Insurer's emphasizing that it would be "incorrect" for us to assume that our current policy protecting all members would remain in effect in the event of any Covid related event. A vote was taken on this at last week’s committee meeting.

Sadly last week I started receiving resignations from current committee members, whom for various personal reasons, have decided to stand down. This had a snow ball effect and 12 of the 13 current committee members have put forward their resignations. Obviously I am one of these, as I am moving interstate.

What does this mean for the club? Unless a new committee can be formed from members, and someone stands up to lead, the club will not be able to continue into the future. So please have a think about this and get in touch if you feel that you can help, or would like to nominate for the committee.

As an incorporated entity, we need to hold an AGM and fulfil obligations to Consumer Affairs. We will be doing this via Zoom in the next week or two and will email you all with a date and link to the meeting. (Our tentative date is Wed 24 Feb at 1.30 pm - to be confirmed.) We hope that as many of you are able to attend as possible. If you know of members who don’t have an email address, please share this news with them. A member of the committee has nominated to post out this information to these members.

I am sorry to be the bearer of this news and live in the hope that the club will continue to successfully function starting with the election of a new committee at the AGM.

 Warmest regards,

 Fiona Lynch
