Kate welcomed Claire to the meeting. Claire provided advice and inspiration for renovating our nature strips, converting them from a grass strip into a garden. Claire pointed out that the information could also be applied to a small garden.
Claire detailed her own successful home project including the steps involved to change her nature strip to a native garden bed, the timeline for the project and her own observations as the project progressed. Photos illustrated well the gradual change in the nature strip.
Claire also provided some tips for deterring possums:
•Flashing, fairy lights draped around bushes and trees but moving them randomly around the garden
•Covering small plants to disrupt patterns
•Using chilli spray with regular reapplication- particularly useful for rats
•Provide hollow for brushtails to sleep in so as to deter from sleeping in roof
•Hang dog hair in small bags around impacted plants or sprinkle smelly fertiliser around
