The sun was shining brightly as members set off on our trip to visit Dromkeen in Riddells Creek. On our arrival we greeted by the owner and director, Bernadette Joiner, and ushered into the cafe for the most delicious morning tea of scones with lashings of jam and cream. Bernadette then gave us a very interesting talk on the history of this delightful National Trust house, which was built in 1889 for Judge Arthur Chomley, who had been born in Dromkeen in Ireland.

Dromkeen is now home to the Dromkeen Picture Book Collection, and after our morning tea we visited the gallery, which has many wonderful framed illustrations from several local authors, including a large collection from Mark Wilson, as well as lots of childrens books for sale.

We then spent a leisurely hour wandering around the gardens, which has many large trees, some of which are listed on the National Trust register.

A tasty lunch was enjoyed at the quaint Riddells Creek Hotel, after which we visited the Riddles Creek Nursery, where members bought many pretty plants to take home.

Thank you to our trip organiser, Helen, for another terrific day out.
