Newsletter - September 2020

Dear Member,

Another month, another newsletter, another CMGC meeting missed and another extension to lockdown. Isn’t life fun?? At least Spring has arrived.

The other day I was sent an email outlining what clubs and organisations need to do to be Covid safe at meetings after lockdown. Quite frankly the cleaning and social distancing is so onerous, that I cannot see senior’s clubs meeting again until a Covid vaccine is found and administered to all. Member’s safety has to be our key priority.

You are lucky that you have an email address and know how to use this technology to access the Club’s e-newsletter. In these difficult times I would urge you to get your family, friends and grandchildren to teach you as much as they can on how to use devices and access the internet, because it opens up whole new worlds and can transport you out of your 4 walls. I laughingly talk about the university of YouTube, which has taught me many skills during lockdown including perfecting sourdough bread, making croissants and crocheting colourful baby rugs. (And yes, newborns are arriving to claim them, or shall I say their parents are!)

Members of the CMGC committee are also learning new technology skills and successfully conducted our first Zoom committee meeting at the end of August. It was so nice to see familiar faces again after so many months. The club has applied for and been granted an extension for our AGM. When the time comes, the AGM will have to be conducted via Zoom. So if you would like to be there, get someone to teach you how to use this program when we get out of lockdown. The first time is the hardest, then it’s plain sailing.

In mid August our much loved member Lea Carter underwent major surgery to remove a tumour, which thankfully was benign. The procedure was very lengthy and her recovery will take some time. Our love and thoughts are with Lea, who is not able to take calls or answer texts right now. Please allow Lea time to heal and I will keep you informed of her progress.

A few weeks before this our website manager Julianne Stoyles (featured in our last newsletter) had to have her appendix removed in an emergency operation. To our great relief all went well and Julianne is waiting for her doctor to allow her to rejoin her husband in Bangkok. However, Scott Morrison seems to have other ideas about travel right now.

Once again a special thanks to all the members who have contributed photos and ideas for our newsletter. Next month I am featuring birds in our gardens, so if you have any good photos, please send them to me. New contributors are always welcome and I enjoy hearing what our members are up to.

Stay safe and well and enjoy the attached newsletter for September.

Warmest regards,

Fiona Lynch

CMGC President
