NEWSLETTER - NOVEMBER 2020

You are here

Thursday, 12 November, 2020

Dear Members,

Last night was so hot that I couldn’t sleep, so I ended up listening to the radio. Part of the chatter was about the size and quantity of the rose blooms this year and I have to agree that they really are magnificent. So we have devoted the front cover of our November newsletter to roses.

In this edition we are featuring 3 of our member’s gardens – Lea Carter’s small succulent based courtyard, Sylvia Stephen’s cottage garden and Helen Tauchert’s lush garden in Camberwell. Next month Jill Thorpe and her friend Liz will share with us their acreage gardens in Park Orchards. When we finally escaped the 5 kilometre barrier, my husband and I visited Jill and enjoyed a cuppa under her beautiful cherry tree looking down the valley. Her veggie garden is something to behold as well, although I believe that Jill has tired of eating broad beans!

Next week I am meeting with the council to try to see what we are able to do about resurrecting our club in 2021. It’s such good news that a vaccine has been created, but as we all know, this will take time to roll out and make us feel safe again. Our meetings may be quite different in the future, with more restricted numbers and BYO morning tea. As for trips, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Luckily most of the speakers we had booked in this year are still very keen to come to our club, so once we have a green light we will be in touch with them again.

With the current Covid restrictions it will not be possible to organise a Christmas lunch for our club members this year. If you have a group of friends within the club, it may be nice to organise a picnic together in one of our beautiful local parks.

At least there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel now for our garden club. Once again a very big thank you to all who have made contributions to the attached newsletter, which has helped to keep us connected in this very strange year.

Take care, keep well and happy gardening.

Warmest regards,

Fiona Lynch

CMGC President.
