NEWSLETTER - DECEMBER 2020

You are here

Thursday, 10 December, 2020

Hi All,

Well what a year we have lived through, but we are still here to tell the story, just!

At the start of the year, I had great plans to recruit a new committee for our club, as many of our long serving committee members would like to stand down. Covid put an end to that. I know for a fact that all around us gardening clubs are folding right, left and centre, for the following reasons:

  • No one will volunteer to go on the committee.
  • Club members are not tech savvy and used to using computers and devices for communication, such as Zoom meetings.
  • Clubs didn’t have a person who could create a newsletter to keep members engaged, informed and connected.
  • The cleaning protocols for running meetings are so onerous now, that without a team of volunteers to do so, meetings cannot happen.

Now that WA has finally opened its border, we will be moving west sometime in March 2021. If this club is to survive and revive, it can only do so if it has an active and dedicated committee. So here’s what we need:

President – Someone who is a natural leader/team leader, or has been one in their working life. This person needs to be a competent public speaker and user of technology, like PowerPoint presentations.

Treasurer – Someone with a background in bookkeeping/accounting, again with competent computer skills

Committee Members – A dedicated group of people who are happy to help out with whatever needs doing in the club and to support the President and Treasurer. In normal circumstances, there are 4 committee meetings per year, so we are not asking for a big commitment here. We need your hands, your voices to impart your wishes and your knowledge to share with members.

The council has a volunteer program in which we might be able to find some suitable candidates, but I would like you over the next couple of months to seriously think about your club, whom you might be able to recommend to help, or by putting your hand up yourself to join the committee. If you have any thoughts or ideas, please send a return email, or text or call me on 0432 159 412.

I would like to send a special thank you to all members who have supported me with contributions and ideas for the newsletter. You have added so much to the colour, variety and seasonal changes that we have witnessed in the newsletter. Mother nature was not affected by Covid and did her best to give us a spectacular display to make us feel better.

On behalf of the CMGC committee, I would like to wish you all the very best for 2021 and a very Merry Xmas and happy holiday season. Enjoy the newsletter attached.

Warmest regards,

Fiona Lynch

CMGC President
