Heidi Museum of Modern Art, Bulleen

Thursday, 24 June, 2010

On Thursday 24th June we set off to Heidi Museum in lovely winter sunshine. We started off with morning tea at Banksia Park, adjacent to Heidi in Bulleen, and watched the sun disappear behind the clouds. We then entered Heidi and were met by our guides for the morning. We divided into two groups; one to visit Sunday Reid's Vegetable and Kitchen Gardens and the other to have a tour of Sundays Kitchen.

We duly set off in our two groups, our group to enjoy the beautiful gardens, which were surprisingly colourful; with late autumn leaves, lavender, and many early flowering bulbs and the Heart Garden a highlight.

Before long it began to rain and our many umbrellas made a colourful contribution to the garden scene. Then the rain became heavier, and heavier still, and we all had to duck for cover under the small porch of Sunday’s cottage until they could fit us all inside. We just made it as the storm front hit sending leaves flying and trees bent sideways. (We found out later that a tree had fallen over the driveway making it difficult for Hayden, our driver, to get the bus out of the carpark!!)

We spent an hour or so viewing the exhibition inside the cottage as we watched the huge storm, enjoying the warmth as we dried out.

After the storm we went to the main gallery and viewed the exhibitions there before meeting back at the bus for the short trip to our lunch venue

Our carvery lunch at the Templestowe Hotel was very welcome after such a wet and cold morning, after which we visited ‘The Greenery’ nursery, also in Templestowe before heading home.

Thank you to Julianne for organising an eventful day out!
