We nearly didn’t go to this garden because the owner died over Christmas period (her husband having died the year before) and we were told that property was being sold.
Thankfully they decided to keep having garden visits and we wandered around the gorgeous grounds with many interesting garden ‘rooms’ and even a small lake with geese that followed some of us around. A bit unnerving considering their reputation for being territorial but no one was bitten.
The autumn leaves on their many mature trees were in full colour. Mt Macedon is a beautiful place to visit in autumn.
The Mt Macedon CWA ladies served us Devonshire teas before our garden visit and then had a delicious three course roast lunch for us when we returned to their hall. What we didn’t realise till after lunch was that their oven had broken down and they had to take the half cooked roasts to another venue close by to finish cooking. A truely stirling effort. They are going to provide lunch for our September trip.
We returned to Melbourne after lunch as it was Easter Thursday and we wanted to avoid the Easter traffic.
