On Thursday 19th September we had a fabulous trip to Mt Macedon to visit the Forest Glade Gardens. Spring was certainly in the air and it was the first day over 20C for many months. In 1941 the Newton family began to create the garden and in 1971 the property was purchased by Cyril Stokes, who developed the gardens to the extent they are today. Much of the garden and the house were destroyed in the 1983 Ash Wednesday fires, following which the house was rebuilt and the gardens extended.
We had a couple of hours to explore these magnificent gardens which were in full spring bloom with daffodils, azaleas, rhododendrons and helibores everywhere.
We then proceeded to the CWA for our delicious 2 course lunch.
On our return we spent an hour at the Mt Macedon Nursery, before our return to Camberwell.
Thank you to the Trip Committee for a lovely day out.
