On Thursday 15th March we set off for Mornington in a fine misty drizzle. The rain became heavier just as we started our tour of the lovely 'Morning Star Estate' gardens!! Luckily it did not last too long, just long enough for our feet to get wet!!
The garden boasts over 600 varieties of roses as well as 38 acres of vineyard. We spent a couple of hours wandering the grounds enjoying the Sunken Garden, Rotunda, avenues and arches weighed down with a profusion of roses and clematis. It is a very popular place for weddings and the estate has a chapel, conference and function facilities and accomodation. The garden however, is definitely its showpiece and we could have spent many more hours enjoying its beauty.
We had our lunch at the Royal Hotel in Mornington, before setting off to the Mornington Botanical Rose Garden. The garden is situated near the Arts Centre on the corner of Mornington-Tyabb and Dunn's Roads, and is an experience not to be missed. There were so many varieties of roses here all set out in colour beds. It is a great place to visit when deciding on roses for your garden as all the roses are very well labelled.
A great day was had by all those who attended.
