Streptocarpus

Pat welcomed the speaker Eric Bramble who gave a most entertaining presentation and showcased a delightful array of potted streptocarpus blooms in many different hues.

Originally from South Africa, these dainty flowers are easy to grow and bloom continually. Eric noted that streptocarpus prefer a shaded but well lit spot like an inside window sill rather than the open garden and like to be well drained.

The plants can be readily grown from seed and Eric also demonstrated a simple leaf cutting propagation technique for us. Half strength fertiliser from November to April will support optimum flowering.

Rosalie & Carmen were each the lucky recipients of a streptocarpus pot plant, donated by Eric as a door prize.
