Janine Kay, from the Australian Pelargonium and Geranium Society of Victoria, provided an interesting talk on the topic of pelargoniums. With the help of her family, she brought along a very colourful collection of plants to demonstrate the great range of pelargoniums available. Janine clarified how to tell pelargoniums from geraniums, noting that most so-called geraniums are pelargoniums. Differences were explained between the regal and zonal pelargoniums.
Tips were provided on propagating, managing pests and disease, watering and pruning. Janine recommended pelargoniums as providing ‘something for everyone’ and she emphasised the extensive variation in the flowers, leaves and plant form of the pelargonium.
The 2025 Pelargonium and Geranium Show is on the 1 (12-4) & 2 (10-2) November 2025 at the N.G. Wishart Senior Citizens Centre, Moorabbin.
Janine Kay provided two plants for the door prize raffle and Heather was the first name drawn.
