Jenny warmly welcomed Max Thompson who gave an inspirational talk on the establishment of the Melton Botanic Garden and the voluntary work carried out by the Friends of Melton Botanic Garden team. The Garden opened in 2017, covers 27 hectares including a lake and features some 2000 dryland species.
These plantings are showcased in different bio regions such as the Eucalyptus Arboretum, the Western Australian and South Australian gardens, the Southern African and Mediterranean gardens and in 2023, the exciting new development of the Californian garden on a raised mound.
Max illustrated many of the rare and colourful flowering shrubs now thriving in Melton’s similar climatic conditions. Innovative plans continue for the future and the CMGC can really look forward to the September visit.
Door prize: Several members received a native plant sourced from the MBG.
