Penny Woodward spoke to 88 members about tomatoes.
Key highlights included:-
- In the early 1900”s there were many varieties of tomatoes and fruits – over time we have lost about 85% of heirloom varieties (due in part to commercial decisions).
- At the suggestion of Margot White (horticulturist at Tasmania Botanic gardens) Penny has written a book about heirloom tomatoes to educate and encourage gardeners to propagate and grow heirloom varieties.
- The informative presentation covered the many types of tomatoes, the role of insects in growing healthy plants and the pests that harm plants.
